In
1991, the US Department of Justice established Weed & Seed - a
community-based multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime
prevention, and neighborhood restoration.
Weed & Seed is foremost a strategy - rather than a grant program -
which aims to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse,
and gang activity in targeted high-crime neighborhoods across the
country.
Our Mission as The City
of Warren Weed & Seed is to be a neighborhood revitalization strategy
that involves citizens, government and businesses in efforts to increase
public safety and improve the quality of life in the community.
This effort exists to maximize federal, state, and local government, as
well as, private sector resources as an investment in Warren's future.
In 2010, the US Government not to continue the Weed & Seed Program through the US Department of Justice.
Even though the Weed & Seed Program has been officially eliminated, the "strategy" has been adopted by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and existing sites (like Warren) can continue the program. And we ARE continuing the strategy of Weed & Seed.
